TheTimesHigherEducation(THE),whichwasfoundedin1971,hasbeenpublishingworlduniversityrankingseveryyearsince2004totransformteaching,research,andknowledge.Anumberofindicators,suchas,internationalperspectives,measurethecomprehensivestrengthofuniversities,andareconsideredtobeoneofthemostinfluentialworlduniversityrankings,andhaveattractedmuchattentionfromtheglobalhighereducationcommunity.THEWorldUniversityRankingsarejointlylaunchedbyTimesHigherEducationandClarivateAnalytics(formerlyThomsonReutersGroup).

Inaddition,TimesHigherEducationalsoreleasedindependentTHETimesHigherEducationWorldReputationRanking(TimesHigherEducationWorldReputationRanking),THEAsianUniversityRanking,THELatinAmericanUniversityRanking,THEEmergingEconomiesUniversity,TheJapaneseUniversityRankings,THEWorldYoungUniversityRankings,THEGlobalUniversityGraduateEmployabilityRankingsandotherrankings.

THEhasreleasedtheWorldUniversityReputationRankingssince2011asasupplementtothe"WorldUniversityRankings".Thereputationrankingsemphasizethebrandvalueofuniversitiesandreflectthecompetitivenessofuniversitiesinattractingtalents,businessinvestment,andscientificresearchpartners.TheWorldUniversityReputationRankingsisbasedontheuseofUnitedNationsdataasaguidetoselectexpertswithrichexperienceandpublishedpapersinvariousfieldssuchasnaturalsciencesandsocialsciencestoconductaquestionnairesurvey,andscorepointsbasedonthenumberoftimestheschoolhasbeenmentionedbyexperts..Therankingisbasedonarandomsurveyofmorethan11,000scholarsaroundtheworld,whowereaskedtolistthe15universitiesthattheybelievedwerethebestinresearchandteachingintheirfield.AccordingtodataanalysisofTimesHigherEducation,youngscholarsaremorelikelytovaluenew,Asianortechnology-focuseduniversitiesmorethanolderscholars.

THEhasreleasedthe"TimesHigherEducationAsianUniversityRankings"since2013.Theevaluationcriteriaforthisrankingare:teaching(learningenvironment):25%,research(numberofpaperspublished,incomeandreputation):30%,citations(researchimpact):30%,internationaloutlook(employees,students,andinternationalizationofresearch):7.5%,industryincome(knowledgeconversionsituation):7.5%.

"TimesHigherEducationRankingofJapaneseUniversities"(Japanese:THEWorldUniversityランキングJapaneseEdition)wasfirstreleasedin2017.ItisarankingofJapaneseuniversitiespublishedbyTHE,whichselectedtheTimesHigherEducationWorldUniversityRankings.ThescoringrulesofTHEJapanUniversityRankingsandTHEWorldUniversityRankingsaredifferentinfocus.TheWorldUniversityRankingsfocusonresearchcapabilities;whiletheJapaneseUniversityRankingsfocusmoreoneducationalcapabilities,comprehensivelyconsideringeducationalresources,educationaladequacy,educationalachievements,andinternationality.

The"TimesHigherEducationWorldRankingofYoungUniversities"usesthesamemethodastheWorldUniversityRankingstoevaluateallthecoretasksofresearch-intensiveuniversities.Therankingofyounguniversitiesexaminesthehistoryofrunningaschoollessthanorequalto50years.Theoverallperformanceoftheuniversitiesinthefiveareasofteaching,research,citations,internationalprospectsandindustryincome.TherankingusesthesameresearchmethodologyastheWorldUniversityRankings,buttheweightsarerecalibratedtoreflectthemissionofyounguniversities.

Atotalof6universitiesinMainlandChinaareamongthetop100,includingTsinghuaUniversity(16),PekingUniversity(16),FudanUniversity(60),ZhejiangUniversity(75),ShanghaiJiaotongUniversity(84),UniversityofScienceandTechnologyofChina(88).

Atotalof4universitiesinHongKong,Chinaareamongthetop100intheworld,includingtheUniversityofHongKong(30),TheChineseUniversityofHongKong(49),TheHongKongUniversityofScienceandTechnology(66),andTheHongKongPolytechnicUniversity(91)).

2020

OnSeptember2,2020,TimesHigherEducationannouncedthe2021WorldUniversityRankings.Atotalof1,527universitiesfrom93countriesandregionswereshortlisted.

Atotalof91universitiesinmainlandChinaenteredthelist,sixofwhichwereamongthetop100intheworld,includingTsinghuaUniversity(20),PekingUniversity(23),FudanUniversity(70),ChinaUniversityofScienceandTechnology(87students),ZhejiangUniversity(94students),ShanghaiJiaotongUniversity(100students).

Thereare6universitiesinHongKong,China,amongwhichtheUniversityofHongKong(39),TheChineseUniversityofHongKong(56),andtheHongKongUniversityofScienceandTechnology(56)areamongthetop100universitiesintheworld;ChinaMacauhas2universitiesonthelist;ChinaTaiwanhas38universities,ofwhichTaiwanUniversity(97)isamongthetop100intheworld.

2019

OnSeptember12,2019,TimesHigherEducationreleasedthe2020WorldUniversityRankings.Thisrankingcovers1,396universitiesfrom92countries/regions,anincreaseof138universitiesfrom2018.

TheUniversityofOxfordhastoppedthelistfor4consecutiveyears,theCaliforniaInstituteofTechnologyhasjumpedtosecond,andtheUniversityofCambridgehasbeenrankedthird.

TsinghuaUniversityandPekingUniversityranked23rdand24threspectively.Inaddition,thereare5universitiesinmainlandChinathatareshortlistedinthetop200,namelytheUniversityofScienceandTechnologyofChina,ZhejiangUniversity,FudanUniversity,NanjingUniversityandShanghaiJiaotongUniversity.

Thereare5universitiesinHongKongrankedamongthetop200,amongwhichtheUniversityofHongKongranked35th,theHongKongUniversityofScienceandTechnologyranked47th,theChineseUniversityofHongKongranked57th,theCityUniversityofHongKongandtheHongKongPolytechnicUniversityranked126threspectivelyAnd171.

2018

OnSeptember26,2018,theTimesHigherEducationWorldUniversityRankings2019wasannounced.Thelistincludesmorethan1,250highereducationinstitutionsin81countriesandregionsaroundtheworld,OxfordUniversitycontinuedtotopthelist,CambridgeUniversityremainedsecond,andStanfordUniversityinthethirdplace.Overall,Americanuniversitiescontinuetodominatethelist,withthelargestnumberofuniversitiesonthelist.

Atotalof7universitiesinMainlandChinaareincludedinthetop200ofthe2019list.ApartfromTsinghuaandPekingUniversity,UniversityofScienceandTechnologyofChinaistiedfor93rd,ZhejiangUniversityis101st,FudanUniversityis105th,andNanjingUniversityistiedfor135.Name,ShanghaiJiaotongUniversityistiedfor190.

InadditiontouniversitiesinSingaporeandmainlandChina,otheruniversitiesinAsiahavealsoimprovedtheirperformance.TheUniversityofHongKongranked36th,higherthanthe40thplaceinthepreviousround.TheChineseUniversityofHongKongjumpedfiveplacesandranked53rd.TheUniversityofTokyoinJapanalsorosebyfourrankings,ranking42nd.SeoulNationalUniversityinSouthKorearose11placesto63.

OntheeveningofSeptember5,2017,TimesHigherEducationreleasedthe"2018TimesHigherEducationWorldUniversityRankings".TheTOP5world-renownedschoolsare:UniversityofOxford,UniversityofCambridge,CaliforniaInstituteofTechnology,StanfordUniversity,MassachusettsInstituteofTechnology.

PekingUniversityandTsinghuaUniversityenteredthetop30,HongKong,China,atotalofsixuniversitiesonthelist,threeuniversitiessqueezedintothetop100(HongKongUniversity,HongKongUniversityofScienceandTechnology,HongKongChineseUniversity),twouniversitiesSqueezeintothetop50.

2016

OnSeptember21,2016,the2016-2017TimesHigherEducationWorldUniversityRankingswerereleased.TheUniversityofOxfordintheUKbecamethetopuniversityforthefirsttime,andthesecondplacewasZengWuTheCaliforniaInstituteofTechnologyintheUnitedStateshaswonconsecutivechampionships,and19Asianuniversitiesareamongthetop200onthelist.Thereare52universitiesinmainlandChinaonthelist,ofwhichPekingUniversityranks29thandTsinghuaUniversityranks35th.

Inthislist,PekingUniversityranksthehighestamongthe52universitiesinmainlandChina,whichjumpedfrom42ndto29thin2016.TsinghuaUniversityrosefrom47thin2016to35th.HongKong,China,has6universitiesonthelist,5ofwhichareinthetop200.TheUniversityofHongKongranksfirstamonguniversitiesinHongKongwitharankingof43.Thereare26universitiesinTaiwan,China,amongthem,TaiwanUniversityisranked195th,andtheotheruniversitiesarerankedoutside200.

2015

IntheearlymorningofOctober1,2015,TimesHigherEducationreleasedtheTOP800listofthe2015~2016WorldUniversityRankings.TheTimesHigherEducationWorldUniversityrankedtopteninthatyear.Amongthestrongest,CaliforniaInstituteofTechnologyranksfirstintheworld,OxfordUniversityandStanfordUniversityranksecondandthirdrespectively.Amongthetoptenuniversitiesintheworld,thereare6universitiesintheUnitedStates,3intheUnitedKingdom,andZurichPolytechnicInstituteinSwitzerland.Enterthetopten,rankingninthintheworld.

Atotalof68universitiesinChinaareamongthetop800intheworld.Amongthem,37universitiesintheMainlandareshortlisted,and31universitiesinHongKong,MacaoandTaiwanareshortlisted.BothPekingUniversityandTsinghuaUniversityhaveenteredthetop50intheworld,ranking42and47respectively.PekingUniversityisalsorankedfirstamongalluniversitiesinthecountry.ShantouUniversityistiedfor601-800,andistheonlyChineseuniversityinthe“post-80s”ranking.
