Since1942,hehassuccessivelyconductedexpeditionsandsurveysinnorthernDaxing'anMountainsofChina,InnerMongolia,Afghanistan,SoutheastAsia,EastAfrica,Europeandotherplaces,fromanimalecologytoculturalanthropologyresearch.HisfootprintsspreadalloverAfghanistan,SoutheastAsia,EastAfrica,Europeandotherplaces.Asof1986,hehasvisited29provinces,municipalitiesandautonomousregionsinChina.BasedonthesurveyinInnerMongoliafrom1943to1945,theecologyofMongoliannomadswhofeedonmilkwasstudied.From1956to1957,hesuccessivelypublishedtwoarticles,"TheAdventuresoftheMoguerClan"and"ThePrefacetotheConceptionofCivilizationandEcologyHistory",whichreceivedgreatattentionfromtheacademiccircles.HestronglyemphasizedthatthecivilizationofWesternEuropeandthecivilizationofJapanalmostallevolvedonthesametrack,whicharousedwidespreadresponse.Inaddition,hisbook"IntellectualProductionTechnology"describinginformationprocessingmethodshasbeenverypopular.In1969,hewasaprofessorattheInstituteofHumanitiesScience,KyotoUniversity.In1974,theNationalMuseumofEthnologyofJapan(SuitaCity,OsakaPrefecture)wasbuiltwithgreatefforts.Umezhaowasthecorefigureintheprocessofcreationandservedasthefirstcurator.In1986,hewasbasicallyunabletosee,buthewasstillcommittedtowritingandspeakingactivities.Since1990,the15-volume"CollectionofWorksbyTadaoMeiZhao"hasbeenpublished.In1991,Umezhaowasawardedthetitleof"CulturalMeritor",andin1994hewasawardedtheJapaneseCulturalMedal.HediedathomeonJuly3,2010duetooldageandphysicalfailure,attheageof90.UmezhaoisalsoanhonoraryprofessorofKyotoUniversity,anhonorarymemberoftheJapanMountaineeringAssociation,andanhonorarymemberoftheKyotoUniversityBachelorMountaineeringAssociation(AACK).
