StrategicSignificance
First,intercontinentalballisticmissilesarethemainsupportforacountry’sstatusasanuclearpower.Intercontinentalballisticmissileshaveglobalcoveragecapabilitiesandcancarryoutnuclearstrikesonimportantglobaltargets.Thisdeterminesthatcountrieswithintercontinentalballisticmissileswillinevitablyoccupyanimportantpositionintheinternationalstrategiclandscapeandhavestrongpoliticalanddiplomaticinfluenceintheinternationalcommunity.Ifthereisnosuchnuclearweapon,theinternationalstatusmaynotbethathigh.
Second,possessionofintercontinentalballisticmissilescaneffectivelydeterstrongenemiesfromimplementingnucleardeterrence.Onceothercountries,especiallyhostilecountrieswithstrongermilitarystrengththanours,implementnucleardeterrence,themostfundamentalthingtodetersuchdeterrenceistohavetheabilitytodeterandnuclearstrikeagainsttheenemy'sstrategictargets.Theintercontinentalballisticmissileisthemostdirectmanifestationofthiscapability.
Third,intercontinentalballisticmissilesareofspecialimportancetosafeguardingChina’snationalsecurity.Chinapursuesamilitarystrategyofactivedefense,andourairintercontinentalstrikeforceandsea-basedintercontinentalstrikeforceareverylimited.OnceChina’ssecurityfacesmajordangers,intercontinentalballisticmissileswillbeanextremelyimportantmeansofattack,aswellasastrategicmeansthatcanposeamajorthreattotheenemy,anda“killer”forsafeguardingChina’snationalsecurity.
Fourth,China’spossessionofintercontinentalballisticmissilesalsoplaysanimportantroleinmaintainingworldpeace.Withintercontinentalballisticmissiles,China'sdeterrenceandinfluenceintheworldwillbegreatlyincreased,anditwillhavemoresay.Theworld'snuclearpowershavetopayattentiontoChina'sattitudewhenformulatingrelevantpolicies.Therefore,China'spossessionofintercontinentalballisticmissilesisconducivetomaintainingworldtranquilityandpeace.
